Personal Safety Lessons

All students, kindergarten through second grade, have been participating in personal safety lessons in Guidance.  This is a very important topic because children need to be aware of how to stay safe in many different situations and what he/she can do if something unsafe does happen.

The unit starts with general safety rules such as the "Always Ask First Rule" which has to do with not going anywhere with anyone without first checking with their caregiver.  We also discuss safety around being out in the community and being around potentially dangerous situations like, cars, fire and guns.  We then progress to keeping their bodies safe with a discussion of "The Touching Rule".

The Touching Rule is that no one should touch the private parts of their bodies except to keep them clean or healthy.  The only adults who may need to do that would be the adult(s) they live with or a doctor but only to keep them clean or healthy.   We also discussed the "NO, GO, TELL Rule".  If someone tries to break the touching rule kids can say "No", go away, and tell an adult they trust.

If you ever have questions or concerns about your child please feel free to call me at 264-5951.
