Students, kindergarten through second grade, have been learning about staying safe in the community, at home and keeping their bodies safe. The key ideas covered are:
- The Always Ask First Rule - Never go any place with someone, even people you know, without first asking your parent or the adult in charge. This keeps kids out of potentially unsafe situations and keeps parents from worrying.
- Pay Attention to Your "Uh Oh" Feelings - When people have a feeling that something isn't right this is what we call an "uh oh" feeling. When we listen to this feeling it keep us safe.
- The Touching Rule - This rule says the only people who would need to see or touch the private parts for your body are your mom or dad (or guardian) or doctor and ONLY to keep you clean or healthy. We talk about the private parts of your body are the parts covered up by a bathing suit.
- If the Touching Rule is Broken -
- Say "No"
- Go Away
- Tell a Grown Up you Trust
- Two Kinds of Secrets - There is a surprise secret, which is OK for kids to keep. There is also a worried or confused secret. These are secrets that are OK to tell to a grown up you trust and we encourage students to tell so they don't have to carry that secret around. We also discuss that no one should ever ask you to keep a secret from a parent, even the other parent (unless it is a surprise of course!).
Where can I get a copy? I am a fosterparent and would like to sit down with the kids and do this activity.
